how can developer charge iphone app twitterrific?

i want know because need such application same functionality new community website. can ruby have no experience objective-c. interesting me if should start reading books iphone programming or outsource work iphone programmer.

i'm 1 of developers twitterrific , honest, can't tell how many hours have gone product. can tell upvoted estimate of 160 hours development , 40 hours design fricken' high. (i'd use phrase, first post on stack overflow, i'm being good.)

twitterrific has had 4 major releases beginning ios 1.0 (jailbreak.) that's lot of code, of in bit bucket (we refactor lot each major release.)

one thing interesting @ amount of time had work on ipad version. apple set product release date gave 60 days development. (that later extended week.)

we started ipad development scratch, lot of our underlying code (mostly models) re-used. development done 2 experienced ios developers. 1 of them has written book: http://appdevmanual.com :-)

with such short schedule, worked pretty long hours. let's conservative , it's 10 hours per day 6 days week. 60 hours 9 weeks gives 540 hours. 2 developers, that's pretty close 1,100 hours. our rate clients $150 per hour giving $165,000 new code. remember reusing bunch existing code: i'm going lowball value of code @ $35,000 giving total development cost of $200,000.

anyone who's done serious iphone development can tell there's lot of design work involved project. had 2 designers working on aspect of product. worked asses off dealing new interaction mechanics. don't forget didn't have hardware touch, either (lots of printouts!) combined spent @ least 25 hours per week on project. 225 hours @ $150/hr $34,000.

there other costs many developer neglect take account: project management, testing, equipment. again, if lowball figure @ $16,000 we're @ $250,000. number falls in line jonathan wight's (@schwa) $50-150k estimate 22 day obama app.

take hit, dude.

now if want build backend services app, number's going go more. seems surprised instagram chewed through $500k in venture funding build new frontend , backend. i'm not.
