linux - How do you reliably get an IP address via DHCP? -

i work embedded linux systems want ip address dhcp server. dhcp client client use (dhcpcd) has limited retry logic. if our device starts without dhcp server available , times out, dhcpcd exit , device never ip address until it's rebooted dhcp server visible/connected. can't 1 has problem. problem doesn't seem specific embedded systems (though it's worse there). how handle this? there more robust client available?

the reference dhclient isc should run forever in default configuration, , should acquire lease later if doesn't 1 @ startup.

i using out of box dhcp client on freebsd, derived openbsd's , based on isc's dhclient, , out of box behavior.
