Learn Silverlight or WPF first? -
it seems silverlight/wpf long term future user interface development .net. great because can see advantage of reusing xaml skills on both client , web development sides. looking @ wpf/xaml/silverlight seem large technologies , best place start?
i hear has knowledge of both , can recommend better starting point , why.
should learn asp.net or winforms first? asp or mfc? html or vb? c# or vb?
set aside idea there logical progression through has become highly complex interwoven set of technologies, , take step , ask series of questions:
- what goals; how want balance profit against enjoyment
- are short term oriented or in long haul
- are type of person likes @ , lot or bored once understand it?
the next , hardest step come accept advice given bound wrong; , longer time horizon more incorrect. if advice more 6 12 months, probability advice wildly incorrect approaches 1.
i can tell story, quickly. in 2000 happy consultant working profitably in c++ on windows applications, writing asp.net , winforms. saw c# , world turned upside down. never went back.
two years ago had same kind of revelation, order of magnitude bigger, stronger , more conviction silverlight. yes, wpf magnificent, , may i'm wet this, believe in gut silverlight changes everything. there no doubt , there no doubt today silverlight important development platform microsoft since .net (certainly) , possibly since switch c++.
in nutshell, here why. don't understand limitations are. platforms do: can this, can't that. wpf pretty case in point, asp.net , winforms and, until now.
silverlight, don't see boundaries yet. silverlight has leaped off desktop onto phones, , don't see reason stop there. yes, true, bound browser, see less jail cell tank in silverlight riding on lots of terrain (it must late, should go bed).
in case, now, learning silverlight gas, there lot of material on silverlight.net site, , best thing learning silverlight if don't see need can holler @ me , i'll make sure pretty quickly.
enjoy, luck , dirty little secret you'll fine whichever choose. it's software.
