How can I install a specific version of a set of Perl modules? -
i'm tasked replicating production environment create many test/sit environments.
one of things need build perl, modules have been installed (including internal , external modules) on years. use cpan.pm autobundle, result in test environment having newer versions of external modules production has.
what easiest/best way , install (a lot of) version specific perl modules.
make own cpan mirror want. stratopan.com, service, , pinto, tools that's built on top of, can that.
the cpan tools install latest version of distribution because pause indexes latest version. however, can create own, private cpan has distributions want. once have own cpan mirror want, point cpan tools @ mirror installs versions. more on in minute.
now, want have several versions of that. can create many mirrors like, , can put mirrors in source control can check out version of mirror like.
tools such cpan::mini::inject can set own cpan. check out my talks on slideshare basic examples, , of my videos on vimeo of demonstrations. @ has "cpan" or "backpan" in title. think might have stuff in the perl review too, or should next issue. :)
lately, i've been working on program called dpan (for darkpan) can @ random directories, find perl distributions in them, , create structure , index files need. run dpan, url point cpan client toward, , off go. it's part of mycpan-indexer project, in github. it's not quite ready unsupervised public use because work corporate clients customize setup. if you're interested in that, feel free ask me questions though.
also, released cpan::packagedetails can build right index file. it's still bit young too, again, if need special, ask.
